Description
Cracking the lacquer is a way protecting the Guqin with lacquer and yet, leaving the guqin slightly more porous than usual, causing the tone to be relaxed. The resultant tone evokes emotions of great melancholy and reservations. This process however, cannot be done on every guqin, as the process involves exposing the guqin to freezing temperatures right after glazing, causing the timber to contract microscopically. When done on a relatively new wood that has not stabilized, the wood structure will be damaged, and the lifespan of the Guqin will be greatly reduced, and the timbre of the instrument will appear loose and weak right from the onset.
in this model has elected to use Recovered old columns which are extremely stable for this process, and created a Guqin with excellent reverberations, strong tone with a hint of melancholy. It performs extremely well as a soloist instrument, and exudes a calm, determined tone. Given time, this Guqin has a potential of becoming an even higher grade, due to its improvement in tone.

Not the same guqin picture but even a more beautiful one with an amazing sound. I thought the guqin pictured here was calling out to me but it was the one I received instead that was truly meant to be. A perfect surprise. It brings me much peace and I look forward to beginning classes with it. Thank you very much, Bamboo Grove
