When performers perform at a concerto level, the dizis required, apart from being bright and in tune (which are a given), need to respond to every nuance and touch of the performer. It is no co-incidence that this level of superb sensitivity comes only from very matured bamboo, allowed to air dry over a period of 6 – 10 years.

“Survival rates” of a bamboo, without being restrained by nylon or cotton cords, dwindle to about 10 – 15% after 6 years. That is to say: 9 out of 10 bamboo stems will naturally split if it was not processed within 6 years. Those that survive, usually are the bamboo pieces that have the highest density.

The lack of moisture and retaining of resins in the bamboo mean that the bamboo can resonate freely to changes in vibrations, and that would lead to the best in sensitivity and timbre for performers.

This grade of instruments are mostly used by concerto performers, conservatory graduates and professional orchestra musicians. This model, with the copper jointing, is preferred for orchestra and concerto settings, which may require the performer to tune to the orchestra calibration.
