Description
A considerably new wood for Erhu with very good results. Learning from western counterparts, who used the E.African Blackwood for oboes, clarinets and bassoons, Erhu makers use it for the same reasons. This dense (1.09kg/dm3) wood holds high frequency pitches very well, resulting in an erhu that is versatile in performing highly virtuositic music.
It has a very big sound, and that is due to the skin, being of the highest quality. Crystal clear notes and good dynamics would definitely be the reason that this erhu is a very good choice.
However, some believe that this erhu may sound perfect in an orchestra, but for a soloist of traditional pieces, this erhu may lack the sweet timbre expected in Red Sandwalwood versions.
