Description
A considerably new wood for Erhu with very good results. Learning from western counterparts, who used the E.African Blackwood for oboes, clarinets and bassoons, Erhu makers use it for the same reasons. This dense (1.09kg/dm3) wood holds high frequency pitches very well, resulting in an erhu that is versatile in performing highly virtuositic music.
Gaohu – the soprano section of the Chinese Orchestra Strings, will have several important requirement. They must be clean, no harsh tones and squeakiness (training IS needed here). They have to be loud, as they are carrying an entire section worth of high registers, and they need to blend in with the Erhu and Zhonghu sections. Using Black Sandalwood, with top quality skin, we have achieved all three. We feel this will be a top choice for most performers in an orchestra setting
