Description
This wood is commonly passed off for Old Rosewood or other ambiguous names. It does sound like wood that has been air dried long enough to have the sonorous resonance, but the luthier was honest about it, and we thank him.
The erhu sounds mellow at the basses, and the high notes are reasonably clear for this price range. There were days 60 years ago when this grade was the top notch of that time, and suitably so, as this erhu plays traditional pieces very well.
More discerning listeners will tell that true “Aged” rosewood have distinctive timbre of subtle metallic sweetness which this lacks. This erhu, however is still a very good choice for serious learners and performers of traditional pieces.
